4th of July Safety

Fourth of July is a special holiday to celebrate the birth of our country. Unfortunately injuries from fireworks continue to rise. In the last year there were over 10,000 injuries and more than half of the victims were children. Thirty-six people have died from 2000 to 2005. Sparklers are often thought as completely safe but also cause injuries. Be sure to only light fireworks that are legal in your area. All fireworks must be supervised by adults. It is best if children observe and not participate in the hands-on lighting of the fireworks. For the most spectacular show and to avoid the possiblity of injuries seek out city sponsored shows in your area. For a listing of locations in Oregon check out oregonlive.com.

Have a happy and safe Fourth of July.
