Intro to clinic

Start here if you are new to our clinic or want to learn more about us.

Who are we?

We are an individual group practice specializing in the care of children. The clinic began serving children in Salem in 1977 and has grown since then. We are made up of 10 pediatricians, 2 nurse practitioners, and 2 physician assistants. This team allows us to provide comprehensive preventive care, disease management, and urgent health needs. Since we are physician owned we are able to evolve quickly to changes in health care and family’s health care needs.

What is a medical home?

We view ourselves as a medical home for our patients. What this means to us is we strive to provide a starting point in meeting our patient’s health care needs. In other words, we are the central hub in coordinating health care services. Many patients have fewer health care needs and primarily need periodic checkups while other children with more complex health care needs require coordination between pediatrician and other health care providers.

What makes us different from other clinics?

Our number of practitioners allows us to open 8 AM - 8 PM on weekdays as well as half day Saturday and Sunday appointments. Our hours are currently longer than our local urgent care clinic. We work hard to see patients on a same day basis when needed as well as being available for recheck visits and check-ups. All of our physicians have completed a residency in pediatrics and are all board certified in pediatrics. Our nurse practitioners and physician assistants are equally committed to children’s healthcare and have undergone additional training and work closely with our pediatricians to deliver quality healthcare.

Will I get my own doctor?

YES! We value long term relationship with a single provider in a clinic. We feel that provides the best quality care. Unfortunately parent and provider schedules don’t only match up, especially with urgent appointments so we always have other providers available. We also see patients and newborns at Salem Hospital so your doctor or someone covering for them from our clinic will see your newborn in the hospital or if admitted to the pediatric ward.

What insurances to we accept?

We contract with a large number of insurances including most OHP plans. Give your insurance a call to confirm we are a contracted provider or call our billing department. We do not currently contract with Kaiser or CareOregon. We will bill most secondary insurances.

How do we use technology?

We were one of the first clinics to use electronic health records to manage complex health information. We see technology as a tool to improve health care decisions. We currently have electronic links with most regional pharmacies for prescribing and managing refills. Since we avoid handwritten prescriptions we reduce medication errors.

Just added we now have an electronic link with Quest labs for ordering and receiving lab results. This improves accuracy of lab order and speed of receiving accurate lab results.

We currently offer a service called “My Health Online” which allows for secure messaging with our doctors and staff using the internet. Also some limited health information from your child’s health record can be viewed such as upcoming appointments and prior measurements (weight and height). There is no cost for this service. We anticipate the feature list will grow in 2009 increasing the ways you can communicate with us. More information here.

We use automated reminder call system that will call you 2 days prior to appointment to help you keep appointments. We plan to begin using same system to assist in other health reminders, such as check-ups, vaccines, etc.

What else is new for 2009?

First quarter of 2009 we hope to begin dispensing some common medications. If your provider prescribes a medication you can save a trip to the pharmacy and get your prescriptions at the office before you leave. We plan to stock common antibiotics, asthma medications, and some skin medications. Check back to our web site for updates on this program.
