If there is any concern that there is a problem with breathing the child should be checked again. At this young age there are not any medications that safely and consistently help cold and cough symptoms in young children. The interventions for treatment are focussed on helping the child deal with the mucous. Saline nose drops and increasing humidity are the main means to thin our mucous and help the child "cope" with it.
