Trenches, trenches, trenches

Site preparation

February 24, 2006 by Kenneth Carlson, MD

Library - 1210.jpgThe first stage of construction is all underground; the top layers of dirt have to be scraped off and replaced with compacted rock and gravel to allow for stability and drainage. The trenches are for the different power, water, sewer and gas lines. The building pad is small gravel and gets compacted over and over and over, and before concrete is poured it will need the underground lines all fed to the appropriate places for the building.

The work begins

work beginsJust one week after our groundbreaking more heavy equipment is appearing and dirt is being moved. Some clear weather has allowed them to start the initial site preparation.

It is exciting for us to see the initial stages of construction starting as planned. Keep watching this space for pictures documenting the progress. Videos available here.

Click here for an overview of our building project including pictures, and other videos. We will be moving a short distance to a new, bright, consolidated space that we hope will be a great place to visit and work. Check back often for updates.

Even before the official groundbreaking the first moving of dirt was caught on tape. Special thanks to Peter Gabriel for providing such appropriate music.
