Happy New Year!

January 1, 2009 by Kenneth Carlson, MD

Happy New YearWe want to wish all our families a Happy New Year! We had a big growth year in 2008 and will continue to grow in 2009. I want to take this opportunity to give you a sneak peek of things to come in 2009.

Medication dispensing

For many common prescription medications we will soon be able to dispense prepackaged course of medication. Our hope is to save you a trip to the pharmacy and improve the percentage of patients that are able to promptly begin prescribed medication. To begin with it will primarily be antibiotics and asthma medications. We will have a system that will bill insurance in the same way that the pharmacy does. In other words your cost will be the same with us as it would be at a retail pharmacy. Of course, this will be an optional service so that if you would prefer to get your medication from your pharmacy that will continue unchanged. More information at Allscripts medication services page.

My Health Online Update

The vendor that is hosting our current secure online messaging service is expected to undergo a major upgrade in 2009. We hope this will make it easier to use, easier to sign up, easier to reset your password, and offer more features. This currently is and will remain a free service. If you haven’t already signed up just fill out a quick form next time you are in the office. Current system allows for secure messaging directly between families and their provider. In addition families can view upcoming appointments and request prescription refills. More information at My Health Online page.

Power has returned to clinic

December 23, 2008 by Kenneth Carlson, MD

As of midday on Tuesday power has returned to the clinic. We are planning to start seeing patients this afternoon in a limited capacity. Please bear with us as we thaw out the building and ramp up our staffing levels. Call office for urgent health needs. For refill requests just call your pharmacy. We appreciate your patience. Be careful on the roads and stay away from down power lines.

Clinic closed 12/23 [update]

December 21, 2008 by Kenneth Carlson, MD

[UPDATE: clinic continues to be without power as of Tuesday morning. At this time we do not know when power will return. Check back for updates]

winter_weather22At this time our office is currently without power and there are power lines reported to be down on D street. At this time we are likely to be unable to see patients. We hope power returns and road conditions improve and we can then open for reduced hours. Please call our office before braving icy roads to see if we are open. If you are getting “all circuits are busy” that likely means our phone system is still without power.

Stay warm and stay safe!

New appointment reminder system

October 22, 2008 by Kenneth Carlson, MD

We are proud to announce we have begun using a new automated call reminder system. It will leave a brief message reminding your family of an upcoming appointment. The message will give you first name of patient as well as date and time of appointment. Messages will be bilingual to accommodate our large hispanic population.

The big change is the system will now call you TWO days prior to your appointment. We hope this will give you more time to change plans if needed or reschedule with us. Make sure you listen to the whole message so that you will hear the appointment time.

Please let us know if this service is working for you. If you are having difficulty understanding the message please let us know and we will continue to update the script.

A big congratulations to Dr. Kemmerle on the birth of a healthy baby boy.

She is currently planning to be out on maternity leave until January 2009. If she is your doctor we have many more great pediatricians to care for you child in the meantime.

We wish her the best and look forward to her return.
